Setting up your email in Apple Mail

This article shows how to set up your Irish Domains email account for sending and receiving on your Apple MacOS device (Mac, PowerBook etc).

Firstly, click the icon for the 'Mail' app in the Dock.

If there are no email accounts currently configured, you will be prompted immediately with the option to add one.

(if you already have accounts configured, you can add a new one via Mail -> Add Account)

When asked to provide a mail account provider, select 'Other Mail Account' [1] , then click Continue [2].

Next, you will be asked to input your login details into the fields provided, enter your account name, email address and mailbox password [3].

After entering the correct information, click "Sign In" [4] at the bottom of the window.

Usually the Mail App will incorrectly guess the mail server name, and display "Unable to verify account or address", this is normal and expected.

The dialogue will show an additional 3 fields asking you to enter an account type, and incoming mail server and an outgoing mail server [5].

The account type should be set to "IMAP", and both the incoming and outgoing mail servers should be set to "mail.email.ie".

Once this information is entered, you can then proceed to sign in [6].

After signing into your account, Apple Mail will ask a few questions that are up to user discretion.

It will first ask what apps you would like to use with your account [7], in this example only the Mail app is chosen.

After choosing the apps you want to use with your account, click 'Done' [8] at the bottom of the window to proceed.

Next you will be asked if you want to protect your mail activity [9], once again, this is up to the user

In this example we have chosen "Don't Protect Mail Activity"

After choosing, you can click Continue [10]

After completing each of these steps, you should be successfully logged into your email account and any mailbox messages should be visible under "Inbox"

INCOMING/OUTGOING SETTINGS

If you later need to check or adjust any of your mail incoming/outgoing server settings, you can simply  right click on "Inbox"[11] and then click the "Edit..." menu item for your account [12]

When the account details are displayed, select the "Server settings" [13] tab on the right.

Here you can change the Incoming and Outgoing server names, port numbers and SSL/Encryption settings.
