Domain Registration Information (Billing, Auto-Renewal, Name Server Changes)
We will migrate over any domain registrations so that your domains will be billed managed through the new system at id.ie from that point onwards. Domains will be moved if they are currently registered and active, or if they have that are expired for less than 30 days (Grace Period) at the time of migration.
Please note that after migration of domain billing records, all domains will appear as "Cancelled" and show "Auto-Renew: Disabled" on our older system because all renewal will take place on the newer platform. If a domain was set to auto-renew on the older system, it will likewise be set to auto-renew on the newer system and if it was set not to auto-renew on our older system, it will be set not to auto-renew on our newer system. After migration, we strongly recommend to check that all domains are configured with your preferred auto-renewal status.
In general domains expired longer than 30 days are in redemption which requires manual intervention to renew - please contact our customer service if you need to do that for any domain names.
Changing of name servers on migrated domains can be performed via your new account at id.ie (Click "Domains" -> "My Domains" and select "Manage Nameservers" for the domain in question. Name server changes will no longer be possible via the older control panel at cp.irishdomains.com.
Billing for domain name renewals operates in a broadly similar fashion to the older system. Reminder notices will be sent 30 days before expiry and (for domains set to auto-renew) a pro-forma invoice/ renewal order will be generated 14 days before expiry - the renewal term will be the same as the previous period, subject to a maximum of 5 years. If there is a valid credit-card on the account (or if a valid credit card enabled for automatic billing was migrated from your old account) then we'll try to charge the card 7 days before domain expiry. If card payment is successful, the domain will be renewed immediately. If card payment fails, we'll notify you and will retry periodically. If you wish to renew for a different period of time, you can manually renew any time before auto-renewal happens.
DNS management for migrated domains.
Initially, DNS management for migrated domains will remain via your older control panel at cp.irishdomains.com. You can log on and manage DNS records in the usual way ("Hosted Domains" -> (yourdomainname.com) -> "DNS" -> "DNS Records"). Over a longer period of time, we'll migrate DNS records from the older control panel to your newer account at id.ie. We'll let you know when that happens, and at that stage your older control panel account will be disabled.
The quickest way to tell which system to use to manage your DNS records is to use any "whois" facility, for example whois.lookup.ie
If the domain name is on name servers ns1.irishdomains.com and ns2.irishdomains.com then DNS management is via cp.irishdomains.com.
If the domain name is on name servers a.dns.ie and b.dns.ie then DNS management is via id.ie.
If the domain name is on other name servers, then DNS record management will be via the system of your third-party provider.
(Remember that Name Servers can only be changed via your newer account on id.ie)
